Betty Jean Paxton was born on May 1, 1935, to her loving parents, Mr. James and Mrs. Sophia Parker, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Geary High School in Geary, Oklahoma. Betty married Tommy Joe Carter, and together they were blessed with six children: Tommy, Ricky, Linda, James, Joyce, and Susan. After Tommy Joe’s passing in March 1964, Betty dedicated herself to her family and career, working at the Geary Nursing Home for 25 years as a medical technician, office manager, and records specialist. In December 1969, she married Mitchell Paxton, and they remained devoted to one another until his passing in 2012. The couple shared a love for travel and sports, often embarking on cross-country adventures, spending weeks at a time exploring new places together. Betty was a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as church secretary and deaconess. She was a woman of unwavering faith whose life reflected the love of Christ. As the matriarch of five generations, she was a source of prayer, wisdom, and laughter for her family and all who knew her. Betty had a passion for playing cards with friends, family and honorary daughter Lisa Hoffman. She was an exceptional cook—her dishes were requested time and time again. Her kindness, strength, and generosity touched countless lives. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Tommy Joe Carter and Mitchell Paxton; her siblings, Andrew Parker, Joanne Lewis, and Vernal Jordan; son-in-law, Hasan Carriel; and her beloved granddaughter, Keisha Brown. Her memory will be cherished by her children: Tommy Carter, Linda Carriel, Ricky Carter (Pamela), James Carter (Jean), Joyce Hall (Darrel), and Susan Carter; as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
