Joy Beulah Ross was born on Monday, March 11, 1935, in the
country on the hill between Eagle City, and Faye, Oklahoma. She
was the fourth child out of 13 children born to Julius and
Lillie Ross. The family raised their children in a two-room
house where love and unity were part of their everyday lives.
Joy started her education in Watonga, Oklahoma at Dunbar School
where she graduated from High School in 1954. Joy met and
married the love of her life Floyd Jones on August 28, 1954.
They held true to their vows for 52 years until death did them
part. Together they had two beautiful children, Marion Wayne and
Brenda Kathryn. Joy’s children were the light of her life. She
was proud of their unique qualities, strengths, and their
talents. She was supportive and encouraging and assured them no
matter what challenges they faced, they had the courage to
overcome anything.
Not only did she love her children she had an undying love for
her grandchildren, who were also the apple of her eye, and she
doted on each one of them to make them feel special and unique.
In the summers she would drive and get her grands to spend
summers with her. Her grandchildren loved being in her presence,
and she was affectionately called Aunt Joy by everyone, and
“momma” or “My Joy” by her eldest granddaughter, Shalon. She
spent her entire life loving, embracing, and caring for others.
Joy loved children and would spoil them rotten. If a child
spent any amount of time around Joy, they then became one of her
children. She would have 8-by- ten pictures of everyone’s
children leaving their parents with the five-by-sevens or wallet
photos.
Joy’s nieces and nephews loved their aunt Joy unconditionally.
They loved how she was always there for them with a helping hand
and encouraging them throughout their lives. She was truly the
backbone of our family.
Joy accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became a member
of Union Baptist Church for more than 4 decades. There she
worked faithfully as the Usher president, one of the mothers who
made sure that the Lord’s supper was prepared every first
Sunday, and she was an intricate part of the hospitality
department. When her health began to fail she moved with her
beloved daughter Brenda and son- in- love Michael Jordan in
Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On November 30, 2024, Joy Beulah Ross -Jones answered the call
to go be with the Lord. She took her last breath peacefully in
her sleep. Joy leaves to cherish her legacy and memories one
