Sidney Bridges Jr. Obituary

Sidney Lainer Bridges Jr. was born January 30, 1938, in Watonga, Oklahoma to Sidney
Lainer Bridges Sr. and Lovesta Davis Bridges. He was the fourth of ten children born to this
union. He attended Macedonia Baptist Church in Watonga, Oklahoma where he dedicated
his life to the Lord.
He attended Eureka Elementary School and Dunbar High School in Watonga. After
graduating, he and his older brother, Hawley, headed west. Their journey took them briefly
to Phoenix, Arizona then to San Diego, California. After spending a few years in San Diego,
Sidney moved to Santa Ana, California where he met and married Carrie Mae Warren in
1968. Five children resulted from this union.
Sidney worked in construction for more than 50 years, then retired in 2010. He also owned
several successful businesses. When he was not busy working and raising his children, he
enjoyed landscaping, reading, researching the Bible, cooking, and music. He played the
piano, organ, and guitar. His greatest joy was his personal walk with God and being a loving
father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He also enjoyed
giving generously to many charities, including the Red Cross and Feed the Children.
Sidney is preceded in death by his parents: Sidney Lainer Sr. and Lovesta Bridges; brothers:
Hawley Bridges, Frederick Douglas Bridges, and Lamar Bridges; sisters: Velma Bridges,
Johnnie Mae Buchanan, and Marilyn Douglas.
Sidney leaves to cherish his memory and legacy, five children: Donald Bridges (Valorie) of
Gilbert, AZ, Sidney Lanier Bridges III (Christine) of Santa Ana, CA, Frederick Douglas “Doug”
Bridges (Maria) of Temecula, CA, Tiffany Bridges (Steven) of Coweta, OK, and John Bridges
(Angie) of Coweta, OK; 14 grandchildren: Taylor Bridges Boyd, Devon Bridges, Bryson (Ana)
Bridges, Sydni Morrow, Riley Bridges, Justin Morrow, Kamrin Bridges, Darrell Johnson,
Skylar Bridges, Caiden Bridges, Aalyia Bridges, Alyssa Muniz, Ashley Muniz, and Angel
Gonzalez; one great-grandson Malachi Bridges; two sisters: Thelma Bridges Mewborn and
Jo Ann Bridges Douglas both of Oklahoma City, OK, and one brother Steve (Barbara) Bridges
of Oklahoma City, OK. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
